April 15, 2005 - House Committee on Appropriations Pass Amended to House Committee of the Whole February 17, 2005 - The measure authorizing the Pink Plate passed unanimously out of the State House Transportation Commitee. More about this exciting development on 9News.com.... February 4, 2005 - The bill was read over the desk just yesterday. It will be in House Transportation and Energy. Follow the bill with this link - look for bill HB 1247 on the website. February 3, 2005 - The bill should be introduced in the House this week. Once that occurs the Speaker will determine which committee to refer to it. To date 3611 people have signed up to reserve the plates. January 14, 2005 - The bill is waiting for the Speaker to assign the bill to the Transportation Committee. First it has to be heard in committee. Then it will go to the floor for second reading, then the legislators will vote to confirm at the third reading, then it goes to the Senate for the same process - Rep. Alice Borodkin (D). November 5, 2005 - September 24, 2004 - Transportation Legislative Review Committee approves Pink Plate to raise awareness about breast cancer.Read the article in the Rocky Mountain News. June 25, 2004 - The TLRC "overwhelmingly approved". The next step is to take it to the September 23 legislative session where the lawmakers meet again to prioritize which bills they will recommend to go to the legislature from the TLRC. June 24, 2004 - Transportation Legislative Review Committee (TLRC) hears testimony from breast cancer survivors, breast cancer awareness supporters, and Representative Alice Borodkin (D-Denver). The speakers advocated for the creation of a new license plate to raise public awareness about the disease. Borodkin kicked off the initiative at a press conference last week. She unveiled the mock-up of the plate and lauded Carol Hickman, the plate's creator, for her diligent efforts. The two will speak of the need for the plate again tomorrow, in hopes of winning lawmakers' approval. June 8, 2004 - Hold the date! We are scheduled for a press conference on the West Capitol steps at 10:00 am. We would love to get as many supporters there as possible. Check the website for final confirmation and details. May 25, 2004 - Representative Alice Borodkin and Carol Hickman meet with the bill writer to start drafting the legislation. May 21, 2004 - We hit 3000 committments for the plates - ten days before the deadline of May 31, 2004. May 20, 2004 - We are only 45 commitments away from our goal of 3000 plates, thanks to your support. May 2, 2004 - We obtain over 1,300 commitments in the last 7 days alone! We are well on our way to the minimum required of 3,000. April 29, 2004 - Rep. Alice Borodkin files with the State to be the sponsor of our breast cancer license plate bill. April 25, 2004 - Channel 9 in Denver airs our first media spot with an interview on the plate initiative. April 14, 2004 - Received first legislator that agrees to support and carry our bill. Several other legislators soon follow in agreeing to support this in the legislature. April 1, 2004 - Launched our web site and campaign to obtain the minimum requirement of 3,000 commitments. March 1, 2004 Filed application with the State DMV for license plate. |
